Fluids for Athletes

Fluids are important for all athletes! Why? Dehydration reduces aerobic exercise performance and makes exercise seem harder. Athletes who are dehydrated are not able to stay as cool during exercise and may develop heat illness.

Quebec Open/ National TC/ Ontario Open

Dear Coaches,

The Quebec Open and Ontario Open will be back to back again this year in November 2016. Between these two tournaments there is a national training camp at the NTC in Montreal. Both of these tournaments are Judo Canada point’s tournaments and will be a qualifier for the Elite 8 competition in January which is the Judo Canada selection for U18 and U21 tournament for Europe in March 2017.

Judo Alberta coaching staff recommend both tournaments and camp to U16, U18 and U21 athletes that wish to compete at an international level this year. Also we recommend athletes have competed at nationals prior to competing at either of these tournaments.
Judo Alberta will be organizing travel to and from these tournaments, Ewan Beaton (ewan@judoalberta.com)will need to know who will be attending and what option for travel by Friday September 16, 2016 with a $500.00 deposit made out to: Judo Alberta given at the Judo Alberta/Inter-provincial camp in Vernon, BC on September 30-October 02, 2016 or mail it to: Ewan Beaton, 603 28th Street South, Lethbridge, AB, T1J-3T6

Information Needed: Name, birthdate, departure location, weight division, age division, medical number, emergency contact person & number

Important:

Developmentally the full tour of both competitions and camps is strongly recommended. The training camp is a great opportunity to train with Olympians and national coaches. It is also an opportunity for national coaches to put a face to a name; it is important that the national coaches see provincial athletes often.

Option 1: Athlete travels to Montreal on November 04, 2016, competes at Quebec Open and travels home to Alberta on November 07, 2016

Option 2: Athlete travels to Montreal on November 04, 2016, competes at Quebec Open, trains at the national camp, travels to Toronto by bus on November 11th, competes at Ontario Open, and returns to Alberta on November 13th at night.

IMPORTANT:

Each athlete has to register themselves for these tournaments online. Please tell athletes to register as Judo Alberta as their club, this eliminates our Judo Alberta athletes facing each other first round. (The websites will not be open until later in September)
Quebec Open: http://judo-quebec.qc.ca/evenement/40e-omnium-du-quebec-2016/
Registration closes on October 23, 2016 or when registration reaches 850 athletes so please register as soon as possible.
